Emphasizing the Parent’s Vital Role
Legacy gives parents the opportunity to play an integral role in shaping who their children become. Scripture instructs parents to teach the love of God to their children – when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. (Deut. 6:7) Family Ministry comes alongside parents by helping equip them for the role of co-teacher, providing vision for passing along their faith and values, and growing children’s character.
1) Equipping Parents
Family Ministry coordinates academic training and provides workshops focused on the co-teacher role and the home component of the school-home partnership. Coaching is provided by room moms and the Dean of Family Ministry. Visit the Co-teacher Resources and Dads on Campus pages for more information on resources for parents.
2) Reinforcing Your Faith & Values
Academic classes at Legacy are taught from the understanding that God is the author of the subject. Teachers continually process with students how God is glorified through the content. Kindergarten through 4th grade students attend Bible class every day. Leadership classes are required for 5th grade and above, and build upon the foundation laid in the elementary years with deeper study and application of biblical principles. A description of Bible and Leadership classes may be found under the Academics tab. Parents agree to support the mission of the school at home and through active involvement at a local church that supports Legacy’s mission. See the Student Resources page for additional resources and events.
3) Growing Character
Recognizing Your Child’s Uniqueness – God created each child with special gifts and talents. Family Ministry encourages faculty and staff to seek ways to recognize students during the year so that every student is celebrated for uniqueness and growth.
Character Training – Faculty, staff, and parents are encouraged to take every opportunity to train students in the value of character. As teachers study the Bible with students, they ask the Holy Spirit to reveal God’s character through the Bible passage, and pray that He will develop each student’s character to be like His. Legacy stresses the importance of character development as a basis for true academic success and achievement, and believes that passing on these traits will build a lifelong desire to be a man or woman of character.
Teacher Feedback –Teachers communicate with parents on a regular basis relating to character and behavior, and report cards provide teacher assessment of citizenship.
Christ-like Culture – Students are coached to reach out to one another in friendship and encouragement so that everyone will know they are Jesus’ disciples. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. (John 13:35)
Student Correction and Discipline – Because God has extended His grace to us, we are equipped with His blessings and empowered to obey. For a description of Student Correction & Discipline policies, and the Student Dress Code, refer to the 2016-2017 FAMILY HANDBOOK.
