The Legacy Prep girls track and program made history over the weekend, winning the TAPPS Class 3A state championship at Waco Midway High School.
The Lady Lions finished the meet with a total of 92 points, beating out Hallett Sacred Heart (76), Lutheran of Dallas (70), Rosehill Christian (69) and Dallas Covenant (63).
Legacy Prep got huge contributions from its relay teams. The Lady Lions started with a victory in the 4×100-meter relay as the team of Margaret Tautfest, Grace Hopkins, Avery Davis and Bethany Hopkins clocked in at 51.31 seconds. The 4×200-meter relay team of Tautfest, Avery Davis, Madison Steed and Bethany Hopkins also won the gold medal with a time of 1 minutes, 48.54 seconds.
Legacy Prep capped off the meet with another standout performance, taking third in the 4×400-meter relay as the team of Steed, Layla Faysal, Tautfest and Grace Hopkins finished at 4 minutes, 23.40 seconds.
Individual medalists were Caroline Freeman in the 3,200-meter run (second place, 12:46.33) and Bethany Hopkins in the 100-meter dash (second, 12.58).
The Legacy Prep boys captured one medal, taking third place in the 4×100-meter relay. The team of Jacob Westbrook, Christos Theodoridis, Carson McDonald and Jeremy Brown crossed the finish line at 45.52 seconds.
