Legacy Students Partner with Jamie’s Journey

My name is Rachael Douglas and I teach 2nd grade Math and Science on Tuesday and Thursday. This year the 2nd grade class was able to participate in Jamie’s Journey. Jamie’s Journey is an organization that was started by my husband and I in honor of our daughter Jamie Faith. We lost our daughter, Jamie Faith, on April 10,2013, when she was 10 months old due to her brain being extremely underdeveloped.

The last week of Jamie Faith’s life we spent in Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital in downtown Houston. During this time we were constantly surrounded by family and friends providing us with prayers, love and support that we needed. We never had to make a decision except spending time with our daughter. Now our family and friends try to give back to families in similar situations.

Every New Year’s Eve our family and friends help us deliver 200 gift bags to all the sick children and their families at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital. The items in the bags include a blanket, notebook, pen, chapstick, gum, the book More Than a Carpenter, Kleenex, coloring book, crayons, play dough, Scholastic book, mini pillow pet dream lite, and two meal vouchers for the hospital cafeteria.

The second grade class helped collect items for these bags and also helped pack 30 of them for us to deliver. It was such an amazing opportunity for the students to be involved in helping our community. I loved how excited they were picking out the items for the bags and working together. My family and I took these bags to the hospital on New Year’s Eve along with 20 of our closest friends. After we deliver all of the bags we throw a New Year’s Eve party for the families and their children. We have face painting, cookie decorating, carnival games, prizes and even a ball drop! It is such an amazing experience watching the families laugh and smile during such a difficult time in their lives.

Thank you again to Legacy and the 2nd grade class and families for all their support. We could not have done it without your help! Run to the Roar. For more information please visit our website www.speaklesslovemore.com.
