Mandatory Summer Reading: Novels are a vital part of our high school English curriculum. When students get out of the habit of reading quality literature, their progress suffers. This is the first year we will have mandatory novel reading over the summer. High school students will be required to read one novel over the summer and be prepared to write an essay over it during the first two weeks of school. It is recommended that students read the novel close to the start of the school year, so it is fresh in their minds. Please find the required novel for each grade level below.
Incoming Grade 9: Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne
Incoming Grade 10: Fahrenheit 451: A Novel by Ray Bradbury
Incoming Grade 11: The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin
Incoming Grade 12: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Math: Summer Bridge activities help “bridge” the gap between completion of one grade level and the beginning of the next and assist students in keeping their essential skills sharp over the summer break. The Math Summer Bridge for High School, including grades 9th through 11th, is highly recommended for all Legacy High School students.
