• coteacherWhat is my role at home? Co-teachers implement (or oversee student implementation of) instructions from the classroom teacher such as homework assignments, follow-up study over covered material, review needed for the next class, and monitoring academic progress at home, including the timely submission of assignments.
  • What is the classroom teacher’s role? Classroom teachers work with their team to write lessons that meet the learning objectives of the school and curriculum, assess student progress, and meet with parents as needed about their child’s progress. New concepts are taught in the classroom with practice work at home.

See the Family Handbook for more detailed descriptions of co-teacher roles.

All co-teachers, regardless of student age, are expected to:

  • Make sure that your child has completed assignments on time.
  • Work with your child to ensure understanding, according to grade-level and teacher requirements and guidelines.
  • Promote unity with your child’s teacher. Teachers are considered the leader of the class; co-teachers support student learning at home.
  • Schedule a conference with your teacher when you have insight about your child’s progress, or you need help understanding your responsibilities at home.
  • Actively participate in your child’s learning at home. Parental involvement on home days creates students who come to school ready to learn, ready for excellence. It also sends students to school who help one another grow. “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another” (Proverbs 27:17).
  • Pass along your Christian faith and values when spending time with your child at home. You will learn a model for accomplishing this when you view the required video, God’s Grand Vision for the Home, later in this training.

The aim of education is the knowledge not of fact, but of values. —Dean William R. Inge
